2016 Holiday & Winter Break

Holiday and Winter Break

Dartmouth offers an extended holiday break between the fall and winter terms. In 2016, in addition to the already scheduled Christmas (December 23 and 26, 2016) and New Year's (January 2, 2017) holidays, the regularly scheduled workdays (December 27, 28, 29, and 30, 2016) are designated as "break days."

All regular staff and union employees, both full- and part-time, are eligible for the "break days," unless asked to work during this period to help the College maintain essential services. Temporary employees are not eligible. Any employee asked to work a "break day" will be paid at their normal base rate of pay.  More details are available on our website.

Employees are also encouraged to read through our Winter Break Frequently Asked Questions which explains how hourly-paid employees should record these hours.

Annual Performance Evaluations

The annual evaluation is designed to be the culmination of a year-long dialogue, and also presents an opportunity for both managers and employees to step back from the day-to-day work and think proactively about goals, priorities, accomplishments, and career and professional development.

  • All divisions are expected to complete annual reviews for staff hired on or before October 1, 2016.
  • All completed performance evaluations should be submitted through the established routing channels for every department or division to ensure the completed reviews are received in the Office of Human Resources by February 1, 2017.
  • Resources and materials (including the form, instructions, and employee preparation discussion topics) are available online.
