Dartmouth Helpers

It has become apparent that atypical needs are likely to occur across the institution as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. A website called Dartmouth Helpers has been launched in the event we need to fill these voids that were created as a result of COVID-19. Staff and Faculty can submit Dartmouth operational need requests and employees who are able and willing, can sign up to help. These efforts are being coordinated so that all staff and faculty can continue to do productive work and/or contribute to the campus community by offering assistance.

Hours of Work policy updated

Human Resources has updated the Hours of Work policy (pdf) for hourly employees including student employees. This update clarifies the expectation and requirement that all work breaks under 20 minutes are paid breaks.

Retro-active impact:
The college completed a review of all hourly employee timecards to identify instances where a current or former employee recorded an unpaid break of less than 20 minutes in the last three years and reclassified this time as paid. Payroll payment for this retroactively reclassified time will be included in the May 29, 2020 check for staff and the June 5, 2020 check for student employees.

Current impact:
• Supervisors, managers, and employees must familiarize themselves with and abide by the updated policy.
• The Kronos timekeeping system will be updated and will reclassify a break of less than 20 minutes from unpaid to paid.

An FAQ document (pdf) is available to assist supervisors and managers in understanding implementation of this policy update.
