April 15, 2014: Dartmouth to Test Outdoor Mass Notification System and DartAlert on Monday, April 21st 

On Monday April 21st, beginning at 3 p.m., Dartmouth will test two of its emergency notification systems. The Outdoor Mass Notification System (OMNS) consists of sirens and voice speakers that can be heard outdoors up to 10 miles from campus. The DartAlert system delivers an automated message to all Dartmouth-administered email accounts and landline phones, as well as to the personal phones of registered users. April 13, 2013: Training Exercise: Simulated Mass Casualty Incident at Thayer School of Engineering 

Emergency responders will be participating in a training exercise on April 13th, 2013 in the Thayer School of Engineering. These fictional medical, trauma, and/or hazardous material exposure drills will involve fire and emergency teams from both inside and outside of Dartmouth College as well as volunteer actors as victims.

July 17, 2012: Test of the DartAlert Emergency Notification System on July 19, 2012

On Thursday, July 19, 2012 there will be a test of DartAlert, the Dartmouth emergency alert system. The Dartmouth community is encouraged to go to www.dartmouth.edu/~prepare/ and register their cell phones to receive future emergency messages and other instructions in case of an event.

March 23, 2012: NH Division of Forest and Lands Issues RED Flag Warning Until 8 p.m.

The NH Division of Forest and Lands has issued a RED Flag Warning (Class 4) statewide except for Coos and Cheshire counties until 8 p.m. EST on Friday, March 23, 2012. Low relative humidity, gusty winds, and very dry fuels will create critical fire conditions for most of the State today.

February 20, 2012: Dartmouth to Test Outdoor Mass Notification System on Thursday, Feb. 23

On Thursday, Feb. 23 at 1:15 p.m., Dartmouth College with the support of the Town of Hanover will test its Outdoor Mass Notification System (OMNS). The OMNS is a commercially available warning system that has been customized for the Dartmouth College campus. The system contains both sirens and voice speakers and is capable of providing a loud and immediate warning to the Dartmouth campus and surrounding communities in case of an emergency.

November 30, 2011: Test of the DartAlert Emergency Notification System

Dartmouth will test the DartAlert Emergency Notification System during the afternoon on Wednesday, November 30, 2011. At this time all campus telephones beginning with the '646' exchange and select telephones beginning with the '650' exchange will receive a call. Concurrently, all Dartmouth email addresses will receive a message. Those individuals who have registered a cellular phone or private land-line telephone will receive either a call or a text message, depending on individual preference.

September 2011: September is National Preparedness Month

Starting in 2004, the Federal Emergency Management Agency chose the month of September as National Preparedness Month. Each year National Preparedness Month has grown to reach more people and more communities. Dartmouth has partnered with FEMA and the Ready Campaign to support this initiative.

August 28, 2011: Hurricane Irene Update - August 28 1:45 pm

The powerful remnants of Hurricane Irene are currently north of New York City and expected to make their way up the Connecticut River. Hanover will begin to feel the worst of the storm by 3 p.m. this afternoon which will continue through the early morning hours on Monday. The storm will bring winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. Up to 8 inches of rain are expected. We anticipate downed trees and power lines and the possibility of prolonged power outages.

August 27, 2011: A Message for Dartmouth Parents Regarding Hurricane Irene

In anticipation of Hurricane Irene's arrival in the Hanover, N.H., area this evening, several safety measures are being undertaken. Dartmouth encourages students and parents to develop an emergency plan in the event that communication is difficult or impossible during or after the storm. August 26, 2011: Weather Advisory: Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene is making its way up the eastern coast of the United States. The current modeling projects that Irene will arrive in the Upper Valley on Saturday night with the possibility of tropical storm force wind and rain through Sunday. Heavy rain and wind up to 70 mph could result in localized flooding, power outages, downed trees and power lines, and the possibility of flying debris. We encourage everyone to remain indoors during the storm and to make the necessary preparations for the possibility of prolonged power outages and an extended stay inside. We suggest you have first aid supplies, flashlights, and enough food and water on hand to weather the storm.

August 25, 2011: Hurricane Irene expected to affect Hanover area

As of August 26, 2011 the National Weather Service expects Hurricane Irene to move up the East Coast of the United States and affect the State of New Hampshire as early as Sunday, August 28, 2011. Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast. The College is taking appropriate precautions to prepare for this storm and recommends that members of the Dartmouth Community do the same.
