529 Registration Directions
To register a bike the owner of the bike will need to do the following:
1. Download 529 Garage in the App Store on phone or computer
· It is always better to complete a bike registration at a registration event with DoSS or Dartmouth Bike as you will get an official bike registration sticker. You can bring you bike to DoSS anytime to register your bike.

2. Log in with your Dartmouth email through the DUO verification, not through creating a new account. Allow app permissions:
- Location – allows the app to send stolen bike notifications in the region
- Photo – they need to take pictures to register their bike
- Notification – participation in the crowdsourcing feature would greatly enhance the app’s ability to recover stolen bikes.
3. Add phone number + Turn Off Bike Notifications
- Click the 3 bars on the upper left-hand corner after completing registration
- Go to “Your Settings” near the bottom, and add your phone number
- Scroll down, uncheck “Receive recovered bike notifications”
- Keep “Receive stolen bike notifications” and “use current location for alerts” checked
- Hit the black check at the top right corner to save the settings
4. “Add a Bike”
- Bike Nickname: you can call your bike anything you want
- Manufacture & Model: the manufacturer label is often on the downtube (ex. Trek). The model text is typically near the manufacturer label.
- Bike Type:
- Hybrid: most are hybrid. When in doubt put hybrid
- Mountain: bikes that have massive front wheel, suspension
- Road bike: skinny wheels and dropped handlebar that bends down and around
- Frame color: the most dominate color you see
- Accent color: the second most common color you see
5. Serial Number: flip the bike over to find it
- Usually located underside of the crank. Rub off any dirt to see and take picture.
6. Shield (important): the 529 sticker. DoSS must put this on after an individual has entered all needed items in the registration form. You will need to come to DoSS at 5 Rope Ferry or Dartmouth Bike to get a shield. This will be what registers your bike as an individual bike in the system and makes for easy identification if stolen or lost.
- After shield placement, click QR Code icon to scan. It will automatically enter the Shield code for you to take a picture
7. Receipt: input purchase price of bike. If you are not sure, guess the price
8. Photo of the bike side: do not skip
9. Photo of what to look for: do not skip. Anything unique about the bike
10. Photo of owner and the bike: Do not skip. This picture proves who the bike belongs to
11. Add this registration to: My account
12. Associated Organization: Dartmouth College
13. Check the bikes information, and hit “Complete Registration” (it’s blue and under the picture of the bike in the middle of page.
**If you completed this not at DoSS, Dartmouth Bike, or a bike registration event, be sure to go to DoSS or Dartmouth Bike to get an official registration sticker to complete the process. You will need your bike with you to get a registration sticker. It is better to go in person to DoSS, Dartmouth Bike or a bike registration event to complete this process.
