Joyce Sackey, M.D. ’85, Geisel ’89

Born in Ghana, Joyce Sackey came to the U.S. to attend Dartmouth. She is the dean for Multicultural Affairs and Global Health at Tufts University School of Medicine.

MAKING A MARK

Sackey is the cofounder of the Foundation for African Relief, a nonprofit organization that fosters collaboration between academic medical centers in the US and their counterparts in sub-Saharan Africa. Her work has dramatically improved access to education and health care and impacted the lives of countless people living with HIV/AIDS in Ghana and Sudan.

IN HER OWN WORDS

"The more diverse the student body is, the more diverse the faculty, the more likely it is that you will be able to attain institutional excellence from all the variation of thought."
