The events of 9/11, growing concern about the environment, and the international financial crisis all spoke to a need for global leaders who could find solutions to increasingly complex problems. As an institution, Dartmouth turned its attention toward preparing students for exactly this, building on our strengths of interdisciplinary learning and global engagement to teach them how to master an exploding knowledge base, think creatively, and adapt to the unknown. As the decade drew to an end, Dartmouth's globally diverse learning community had become a cradle for forward-thinking, innovative leaders of the new millennium.
