While the country watched the unraveling of the Nixon administration and women's rights took center-stage in the courts thanks to Roe v. Wade, Dartmouth took dramatic steps to ensure its students and faculty were prepared to lead for many decades to come. Burgeoning interdisciplinary programs established Dartmouth at the cutting edge of academia, serving as a model for other colleges. Through opening the college to women and the establishment of groups and programs like the Black Alumni at Dartmouth Association and the Native American Program, Dartmouth embraced the image of a student, alumni, and faculty assembly more representative of the world outside its walls.
