Leslie Henderson, Ph.D.

Leslie Henderson is a professor of physiology & neurobiology and of biochemistry, and the senior associate dean for faculty affairs at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.

LEADING THE WAY

Henderson, who joined the faculty in 1989, was among the first female tenure-track faculty members at Dartmouth's medical school and now serves within the Geisel School's senior leadership.

MAKING AN IMPACT

Amidst reports of significant increases in performance-enhancing drug use, particularly among adolescents, Henderson and her team research the effects of anabolic steroids on the nervous system and on behaviors such as anxiety and aggression. Henderson's public outreach efforts, such as her participation in local "Science Cafes" and annual talks at high schools, maximize the impact her research has on the very population that has the most to gain from it.
