Jose Fernandez was a member of Dartmouth's Board of Trustees and a partner at the law firm Latham & Watkins before being nominated by President Obama to serve as Assistant Secretary of State.

MAKING A MARK

Fernandez was the Latin American Chair at Latham & Watkins and is widely known for his expertise in international law. He chairs the American Bar Association's Inter-American Law Committee and belongs to the Council of Foreign Relations.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

"I was nurtured and challenged by educators and administrators whom I will never be able to repay, and who convinced me that a career in international law was not beyond my reach," Fernandez says of his time as a Dartmouth undergraduate.
