Listen to the interview :

Malcolm: "The war was on.  We were in the war.  We all knew we'd be in the service in six months so it was just a matter of getting started.... I enlisted.... There had been a Dartmouth group that went in the service about six months or a year before and that was talked about quite a bit....I spent the fall term waiting.  Then I got called up to report in January '43.  We [The Dartmouth Squadron] all reported together.... We were just a bunch of individuals until we got to the service."
