How to Get the Full-Text of an Article from a PubMed Search

  1. Search PubMed.
  2. Display your results in the Abstract, Citation, or AbstractPlus format by using the "Display" pull-down menu which is under the search box, between the two rows of tabs. Or select a single citation by clicking on the author’s name.
  3. Click on the green "Dartmouth Full Text" icon , if it appears. The icon will appear above the article title in the Abstract or Citation display, and below the PMID number in the AbstractPlus display
  4. If you see no green "Dartmouth Full Text" icons for any article, click here for instructions.
  5. If there is no green "Dartmouth Full Text" icon for a particular desired article, click on the "Article Linker" icon . A new Article Linker browser window (or tab) will open. In that window, Step 1 shows options, if any, for linking to the article in Dartmouth-licensed ejournals. Step 3 allows you to place a DartDoc request for the article, with the DartDoc form automatically filled out for you. Click here for more detailed instructions.
  6. If you want to request several articles in a batch, you can use PubMed's Loansome Doc feature. Select the desired articles from your search, then "Send to Order" by using the "Send to" pull down menu near the top of the page. Log in to Loansome Doc (or register) and continue as directed. Click here for Loansome Doc registration instructions. Click here for more detailed instructions on using Loansome Doc to request articles.
  7. If you are off-campus, most links to the full text of articles will not work unless you are also using a VPN. See Accessing Digital Information Resources.
