Major: Geography and French Studies
Current Work and Impact of French Studies Major: I spent the first year after graduation living in Lyon, France as a part of the Dartmouth ENS Exchange. I had a wonderful experience not only being involved in the ENS community but also teaching French at a local lycée and law school (Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3). I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to spend a year in Lyon as it really served as a starting point for the rest of my post-Dartmouth experience.
Determined to stay in France after my year at the ENS, I worked as a legal assistant for a year in the Paris office of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. While working at Cleary, I began to consider graduate schools in urban policy and planning. I applied to a double degree masters program in Urban Policy between Sciences Po Paris and the London School of Economics – and I was accepted! I felt – and have found – this program to be a perfect mix of my two undergraduate majors (Geography and French Studies), which continue to be my two main academic interests. While I am currently in London finishing up the second year of my two-year masters program, French has truly managed to become a large part of my *vie quotidienne* as well as my professional and academic ambitions.
I would be more than happy to talk to any Dartmouth undergrad who is considering living in France (or in Europe) or would like advice on how to pursue graduate school or professional options in France.
