The Department of Film & Media Studies at Dartmouth College offers a wide range of courses in the theory, history, and criticism of film, television, and new media as well as a limited number of courses in screenwriting and film, video, and gaming production. The major provides a common grounding for all students in the theory, history, and criticism of film, television and new media, while at the same time it asks that students take at least one course with a production component. Students may modify Film & Media Studies with another related discipline and it should be noted that Film & Media Studies can be either the major or the minor part of a modified major. The department also accommodates those students who would like to minor in Film & Media Studies.
Our courses in new media and game design areas are relatively fresh at Dartmouth — be sure to watch for new courses appearing each term at the registrar's site!
