Barbara Kreiger is a senior lecturer in the English Department and Jewish Studies, and adjunct associate professor and director of the creative writing concentration in the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Program. Her Ph.D. in English is from Brandeis University.
She is the author of The Dead Sea: Myth, History and Politics and Divine Expectations: An American Woman in Nineteenth-Century Palestine. She has also written the introductions for reissues of travel classics by Freya Stark (Baghdad Sketches) and Alexander Kinglake (Eothen).
Her primary interests are travel and memoir. She has taught freshman seminars in 20th century travel literature, 19th century Holy Land travel, and Jewish memoir in the 20th century. She also teaches English 5 in the English Department and non-fiction creative writing in M.A.L.S.
She received the Distinguished Lecturer award from Dartmouth in 1998 .
Professor Kreiger is the recipient of a Fulbright award and is teaching at the University of Rome for the 2004 - 2005 academic year.
