Milton 400th Birthday Marathon

Please help us celebrate John Milton's 400th birthday by adding your voice to a marathon reading of Paradise Lost, the greatest epic poem in English.

  • When: Sunday November 16, starting at Noon and finishing around 7:30 PM? maybe earlier?
  • Where: Collis Common Ground in the Collis Student Center

We will have fine refreshments, befitting the occasion, available all afternoon and into the evening.

Please sign up to read a portion of the poem. We have divided each of the 12 books into four parts (except for books 7, 8 and 12 which have three parts each). You may sign up for a quarter book, a half book (2 quarters) or even a whole book if you wish. Sign up by sending an e-mail to Professor Luxon at thomas.h.luxon@dartmouth.edu with your choice of portions. Choose several consecutive portions or non-consecutive portions. Using e-mail, we will help you estimate when your portion is likely to be needed to keep the reading going. This means you don't have to stay for the full seven hours.  But of course you will want to if you can! You may read the poem and prepare your piece at The Milton Reading Room's edition of Paradise Lost.
