To the Graduate Student Community,
By now you no doubt have heard the very sad news about the death of Mikhail Lomakin, a first year graduate student in the Department of Physics. Mike, as he liked to be called, was born in St Petersburg, Russia, and was fluent in Russian. He was from Groton, Massachusetts, and was an undergraduate at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. He was interested in space plasma physics, and was very excited to embark on his career in research here at Dartmouth.
A loss like this is difficult, especially one so sudden and unexpected, and we want you to know that the Dartmouth Community is here to support you in any way we can. In addition to the Councilors available at Dick's House, the staff of the graduate office, as well as Faculty from the Physics department, are available to speak with you, should you feel the need.
In remembrance of Mike, there will be a vigil at 6:30pm tomorrow (Monday), in front of Wilder Laboratory.
We will keep Mike, his family, and his friends in our thoughts as we deal with this difficult time.
