Dartmouth has a new, free monthly news and information resource available for its alumni (and others): Speaking of Dartmouth. Produced by the College's Offices of Alumni Relations and Public Affairs, Speaking of Dartmouth is an email newsletter offering a mid-month look at news, features, upcoming events from around campus, and notices about a variety of services for alumni.
The newsletter began publication last November and comes in the form of a simple email message giving headlines, each followed by a link to a web page or site that gives the complete story. The December issue, for instance, directed readers to websites covering topics ranging from Michael Arad '91 winning the World Trade Center memorial design competition to Winter Carnival plans to how to use Dartmouth's digital library.
"New technologies provide new opportunities for Dartmouth to help keep its alumni in touch with activities and developments at the College and to apprise them of opportunities to stay involved with their alma mater," says Stan Colla, vice president for alumni relations. "We're excited about Speaking of Dartmouth and hope alumni will be as well."
"One of our top priorities is to make Dartmouth's alumni and friends aware of the latest news about the work of the students and faculty in as timely a way as possible," says William N. Walker, vice president for public affairs. "This electronic newsletter is a significant addition to our range of communications channels, and we hope it will help keep the College in touch with the many people who care about its continuing progress."
Approximately 33,000 alumni already receive Speaking of Dartmouth, and subscribing online is easy for both alumni and others. Simply go to the website and sign up with a current email address.
The publication is edited by Karen Endicott, who was an editor for Dartmouth Alumni Magazine for 17 years. The editorial board is chaired by Roland Adams, director of news and public information, and includes Jan Bent, director of alumni information resources; David Gibson, director of communications for the College's development office; Margaret Parsons, deputy director of alumni relations; and Tamara Steinert, public affairs officer.
