XIII. Recreational & Outdoor Activities
- Asgard is a completely student-run organization, dedicated to providing a dynamic selection of social activities, opportunities, and outlets which serve as alternatives to alcohol centered social events. While members of Asgard hold no objection to the consumption of alcohol, we object to its abuse and believe that it should not serve as the sole foundation for social interaction at Dartmouth. Becoming a member and getting involved is easy. We encourage everyone, no matter how new to the group, to submit ideas for activities and we help those students turn their ideas into campus-wide social events. Blitz: asgard

- The Dartmouth Association of Culinary Arts was founded in Jan 2001 and though it is a young organization, it has been warmly welcomed by the Dartmouth community. DACA is a multicultural organization whose purpose is to celebrate the culinary arts by introducing students to foods of various cultures, and to increase student interest and participation in the cooking experience. Specifically, we sponsor three types of events and services: DACA holds regular cooking lessons; DACA is also involved in holding its own special events such as dinner shows, food and movie nights, food tastings and contests, and charity fundraisers; thirdly, DACA caters for events held by other student organizations -- we've catered for events ranging from 50-400 people.

- Dartmouth Outing Club Activities
- The Dartmouth Outing Club (DOC) has grown substantially since its early years. Entirely student-run, the Outing Club has an undergraduate membership of around 1200, making it the largest student organization on campus. Over 300 staff, alumni, and community residents also take an active part in the club. The location of Dartmouth College along the banks of the Connecticut River between the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the Green Mountains of Vermont contributes to the institution's unique sense of place. Throughout the year, the changing seasons highlight different aspects of the natural environment. Students from around the globe come to Dartmouth for its beautiful surroundings as well as its excellent academic opportunities. Students interested in taking advantage of the outdoors but who may be in need of equipment can always rent equipment from Robinson Outdoor Rentals, located in the bottom of Robinson Hall. The Dartmouth Outing Club (D.O.C.) fosters an appreciation of the outdoor environment, an integral part of life at the College. Members of the Dartmouth Outing Club explore far beyond the Town of Hanover. Forty-two miles to the north rises "Dartmouth's own mountain," Mount Moosilauke. At 4,802 feet, its rugged, domed summit provides some of the most spectacular views in the White Mountains. The area has been a source of enjoyment for generations of Dartmouth students. The Ravine Lodge, located at the base of the mountain is one of Dartmouth's most cherished assets and is used for environmental research, recreation, academic retreats, and workshops. Each autumn over 90% of the incoming class is introduced to the Lodge during D.O.C. Trips. In the extreme northeastern corner of New Hampshire, just 30 miles south of Canada, lies the 27,000 acre Dartmouth College Grant. Swift Diamond and Dead Diamond Rivers flow through this special wilderness. Outing Club members often use the three D.O.C. cabins on the property as home base for hiking, cycling, paddling, snow shoeing, and skiing. Blitz: dartmouth outing club

- Cabin and Trail (C&T) is one of the oldest, largest, and most active DOC clubs. While one of our main goals is to maintain 75 miles of the Appalachian Trail from Eastern Vermont to Mt. Moosilauke (including the section that runs through downtown Hanover), we focus on having fun in the outdoors. Our activities range from strawberry picking or a trip to the drive-in movies, afternoon dayhikes, weekend hiking and backpacking trips throughout New England, the weekly "DinerToure" of local diners, trail construction and maintenance, or simply a relaxing weekend at one of our ten cabins. Our Woodsmen's Team encourages newcomers and competes against other schools in the Northeast and Canada in old-fashioned logging skills. C&T meets every Monday at 10:00 p.m. in the basement of Robinson Hall. Blitz "cabin" with questions or to join the blitz list.
- The DMC (Dartmouth Mountaineering Club) is one of the largest organizations in the Dartmouth Outing Club (DOC). And for good reason: we have lots of psyched climbers and a ton of rad places to climb, on and off campus. Come cling to the walls in the amazing Jonathan Belden Daniels Memorial Climbing Gym - one of the best climbing gyms in New England. We teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced climbing courses, indoors and out, every term. Go on trip with us! Chances are that on every weekend or free weekday we're out at one of many crags in the area: Winslow, Rumney, Cathedral, Cannon, the Gunks, Whitehorse, Sundown, etc. New Hampshire has awesome rock, great for climbers of all abilities. (And amazing ice climbing too!) Climb some of the buildings on campus, and experience climbing like never before! Compete with students from other schools all over New England in the annual Dartmouth Intercollegiate Climbing Competition, held every winter in our gym. If you wanna find out more, meet other climbers, or just find out the best place to hang upside down, blitz Mountaineering and ask to be put on the "DMC blitz list".
- Dartmouth Organic Farm The Dartmouth Organic Farm began its first full season in the spring of 1996. Initiated by an Environmental Studies 50 class proposal, the working educational farm provides students from a wide variety of disciplines with opportunities for academic research and informal learning.
