AP, IB, A-Level, & Transfer Credits & Placement
Advanced Placement, A-Level, and International Baccalaureate Examinations
Dartmouth offers course credits, exemptions and placement in some subject areas for outstanding results on Advanced Placement, A-Level, and International Baccalaureate exams. On this page you will find the latest information we have available. Please note that these policies are reviewed each year and may change from one year to the next.
Credit for College Coursework
First-year students may also be eligible to earn placement or credit for college courses taken before matriculation at Dartmouth:
- Entering first-year students may transfer credit for up to 4 courses from other colleges or universities.
- Online course work and courses taken at community colleges are generally not eligible for transfer credit. (U.S. military veterans may receive credit for community college course work.)
- Not all departments grant transfer credit for courses taken prior to enrollment at Dartmouth, and each course is evaluated on an individual basis.
Transfer Student Credits
Transfer students may receive anywhere between 9 and a maximum of 17 credits. The Dean of Undergraduate Students has detailed information about credit for transfer students.
