Committees & Initiatives

The Councils of the General Faculty provide a forum for deliberation on matters of policy affecting the entire institution. They serve in a continuing advisory capacity to the President, the Provost and Board of Trustees, and report annually to the General Faculty. The President will appoint chairs of Councils normally from among the members who are not ex officio.  More information is available online here.

As a pillar of President Hanlon's academic vision for Dartmouth, the Academic Cluster Initiative will extend Dartmouth's impact on the world through interdisciplinary faculty teams who collaborate at the leading edge of discovery.

Founded in 2014, under the leadership of President Philip Hanlon, the Society of Fellows—comprising Faculty Fellows, Postdoctoral Fellows, and Visiting Fellows—aims to foster intellectual and interdisciplinary community, and the integration of research with teaching excellence. The Society is administered by a Faculty Director, a Program Administrator, and Faculty Fellows, who recommend the appointment of Postdoctoral Society Fellows and Visiting Fellows.

Through these six initiatives, we affirm our commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion across Dartmouth.

  • Faculty Development & Diversity

The Office of the Provost offers a number of resources to support faculty in their development throughout their careers. Below you'll find information about select funding opportunities, upcoming workshops and events, and resources to strengthen faculty scholarship and teaching. We also offer information and resources for departments to help them recruit diverse and talented candidates to Dartmouth.

  • Take a Professor to Lunch Program

The Take a Professor to Lunch program is a long-standing donor-funded program administered by Student Affairs through the Undergraduate Deans Office. We are grateful for the support of Gerry Kaminsky '61 whose generous gifts have made this program possible.
