Carolyn Gray Kimberlin is an experienced higher education advancement leader who currently serves as interim vice president for alumni relations at Dartmouth College. In this senior role, she shapes a dynamic, institution‑wide, alumni‑engagement strategy, oversees a team of 30-plus staff, and leads the full spectrum of alumni programming—including the Dartmouth Alumni Council, class and regional activities, identity‑based groups, alumni travel, and Dartmouth Alumni Magazine. She partners with senior advancement and communications leaders to integrate alumni relations into the College’s broader mission, drives innovative marketing and digital outreach, and steward’s the department’s budget and resources while championing diversity, equity, and inclusion 

Before assuming the interim vice‑presidential appointment, Carolyn held a series of progressive leadership positions at Dartmouth and Colby College. She most recently served as assistant vice president for alumni relations at Dartmouth, where she set strategic direction for volunteer structures, led high‑profile global tours and alumni‑trustee initiatives, and built comprehensive alumni‑engagement metrics. Earlier she served as senior director of volunteer engagement, directing a volunteer management team of twelve, overseeing compliance for alumni organizations, and creating communications frameworks that amplified volunteer opportunities 

During her 18‑year tenure at Colby College, Carolyn served in multiple roles, including the director of the Colby Fund, director of engagement and annual philanthropy, and director of Milestone Reunions. She raised nearly $7 million annually for the annual fund, pioneered volunteer‑driven annual fund efforts, and led Colby’s 50th Reunion program to record‑breaking results.

Carolyn’s volunteer leadership extends beyond her professional duties. She is vice president of the Brandeis University Alumni Board and served on the board of the Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center, where she held both board and vice‑presidential positions. She holds dual bachelor of arts degrees in history and American studies from Brandeis University. 

Her career is marked by a blend of strategic vision, data‑driven decision‑making, and a commitment to fostering inclusive, high‑performing teams that deepen lifelong connections between alumni and their institutions.
