THE
AMERICAN-SCANDINAVIAN FOUNDATION: offers funding to Scandinavians
to undertake study or research programs (usually at the graduate level) in the
United States for up to one year. Candidates for awards are recommended to the
ASF by the cooperating organizations. Awards are made in all fields. Applicants
must be citizens of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden. Contact the
ASF's cooperating organizations for specific information regarding eligibility,
award size and application deadlines.
BRITISH CHEVENING
SCHOLARSHIPS: enable students of high intellectual promise to
pursue studies in the UK. Chevening scholars must study in the UK for at least
3-months. Most scholars already have a first degree and the majority study for
postgraduate degrees, particularly Masters courses. You must apply to the
British Embassy/High Commission or The British Council in the country of which
you are a citizen. Please see the full country listing and

COUNCIL LEARNING: lists scholarships, fellowships and grants for
students of all nationalities to study at British institutions of higher
education. Inquiries about such awards should be addressed to the British

JACK KENT
COOKE FOUNDATION GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: This program will
award approximately 65 scholarships to seniors or recent graduates planning to
attend graduate school. Each award will cover a portion of educational
expenses, including tuition, living expenses, required fees, and books for the
graduate degree chosen. The amount and duration of awards vary by student based
on the cost of attendance and the length of the graduate program as well as
other scholarships or grants received. The maximum available per student is
$50,000 per year and the maximum length is six years. Dartmouth can nominate up
to 2 candidates. Application Deadline: May 2007. Campus deadline: April
2007.
DARTMOUTH
GENERAL FELLOWSHIPS: These awards may be used for graduate study
or projects either in the U.S. or abroad. Applicants must submit evidence of
financial need as well as academic merit, and a well-conceived program of
graduate study, independent research, or creative project. Fellowships usually
do not exceed $5,000. Awards are not granted for medical school and only rarely
for law or business schools. Awards are not renewable. Application deadline:
March 2007.
ERASMUS MUNDUS:
The Erasmus Mundus program is a co-operation program in higher education
which promotes the European Union as a centre of excellence in learning around
the world. It supports European top-quality Masters Courses through a
Consortium of four institutes from the following universities: London School of
Economics and Political Science (Economic History Department); University of
Vienna (Institute of History (IfG)); University of Wroclaw (Willy Brandt Centre
for German and European Studies); University of Leipzig (Centre for Advanced

FULBRIGHT FOREIGN STUDENT PROGRAM: Grants for study or research in
the US. The Fulbright Program supports educational exchanges that strengthen
understanding and communication between the United States and over 140
countries. More than 1,300 new Foreign Fulbright Fellows enter U.S. academic
programs each year. For application deadlines, please contact the Fulbright
Program Office in your home country.
GATES CAMBRIDGE
SCHOLARSHIPS: These scholarship are for students of outstanding
academic merit and leadership potential from every country of the world other
than the United Kingdom, who are committed to serving their communities, and
who gain admission to the University of Cambridge to pursue courses of study as
follows: a second Bachelor degree as an affiliated student; one-year
postgraduate courses; or research leading to the degree of PhD. The Gates
Cambridge Trust intends to offer a substantial number of awards annually which
will cover the costs of studying at Cambridge. Some of these awards will be for
students from the US; but students from all countries are eligible. Students of
exceptional academic achievement and scholarly promise for whom further study
at Cambridge would be particularly appropriate are welcome to apply. Students
will need to provide evidence of their ability to make a significant
contribution to their discipline, either by research, or by teaching, or by
using their learning creatively in their chosen profession. Application
deadline: October 15, 2007.
GOLDMAN SACHS GLOBAL LEADERS PROGRAM: seeks to train and develop
tomorrow's educators, policy makers, business leaders, research scientists,
social entrepreneurs, and other professionals, and to create an international
network through which they can share ideas, work collaboratively, and begin to
change the world. The competition identifies and rewards the academic
excellence and leadership potential of 100 of the most accomplished second-year
students from all disciplines from over 70 top universities and colleges
worldwide. Each student is awarded $3,000. Dartmouth College can nominate a
minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 students who meet the eligibility criteria.

MICROSOFT
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Students will be awarded scholarships in
recognition of their passion for software, academic excellence, and ability to
make a difference in the software industry. A large majority of the
scholarships will be awarded to female students, under-represented minority
students or students with disabilities. Minority applicants must be a member of
one of the following groups under-represented in the software field: African
American, Hispanic, or Native American. Apply as a Freshmen, Sophomore,
or Junior. Application Deadline January 15, 2007.
ALFRED
K. PRIEST FELLOWSHIP: for graduate study at Harvard University.
Fellows will be chosen yearly from among applicants who have been accepted by
any graduate program at Harvard. Potential for excellence, capacity for
leadership, and financial need are criteria in the selection. Fellows will
usually receive about $10,000 per year until the completion of the education
for which they applied. Application deadline: March 2007.
RHODES
SCHOLARSHIPS: The Rhodes Scholarships, the oldest international
fellowships, were initiated after the death of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, and bring
outstanding students from many countries around the world to study at the
University of Oxford. Awards are made for a two-year period but may be extended
for a third year. An applicant must be unmarried, and remain unmarried during
the first year of residence. Stipend covers tuition, travel, fees and
maintenance. Canadian citizens may apply through the Canadian Rhodes Trust.

Scholarships are available for citizens of Australia, Bangladesh, Bermuda,

ROTARY
AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS: The primary purpose of Rotary
Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships is to further international understanding
and friendly relations among people of different countries. Scholarships
are awarded for study or training in another country where Rotary clubs are
located. Initial application must be made through a local Rotary club in the
applicant’s legal or permanent residence, or place of full-time study or
employment. Application deadlines are set by individual Rotary clubs in
accordance with the district deadline. Application deadlines may be as
early as March 1, 2007 or as late as July 15, 2007 for program year
2008-2009.
FRED C.
SCRIBNER, JR. AND JAMES H. HAMLEN FUND and the FRED C. SCRIBNER, JR.
FELLOWSHIPS: for law study at an accredited law school.
Eligibility: graduating senior, preference will be given to Dartmouth seniors
from the state of Maine. The exact amount of the award varies from year to
year. The current stipend is $3,000, but varies according to funding.

CHARLES
H. WOODBURY MEMORIAL LAW PRIZE: for law study at an accredited law
school. Two fellowships will be awarded each year. Eligibility: graduating
senior. The exact amount of the award varies from year to year. The current

COMMONWEALTH
SCHOLARSHIP PLAN: enables students of high intellectual promise to
pursue studies in Commonwealth countries other than their own, so that on their
return they could make a distinctive contribution in their own countries while
fostering mutual understanding within the Commonwealth. The following
Commonwealth countries offer scholarships to Canadian citizens and in certain
cases to permanent residents of Canada for graduate studies (Masters or Ph.D.)
or, in the following countries, for research toward a Canadian graduate degree:
Botswana, India, New Zealand, Trinidad & Tobago, and the UK. Trinidad &
Tobago offers scholarships to Canadian citizens and Commonwealth citizens.

DAAD STUDY
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GRADUATING SENIORS: Study Scholarships are
awarded to highly qualified graduate students of all disciplines to provide the
opportunity to study in Germany or complete a postgraduate or Master's degree
course and obtain a degree at a German university or institution. Application
deadline: November 15, 2006. Campus deadline: October 23, 2006.
GOVERNMENT OF CANADA
INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS: for Canadians wishing to study
abroad and for non-Canadians wishing to study in Canada. Application deadlines
