The Personal Essay requirement for the Rhodes and Mitchell scholarships has recently been amended. Applicants are now prohibited from allowing anyone to review or edit their essays and must submit their essays with a signed declaration that the rule has been followed. Institutional endorsers are also required to sign a declaration that no one has reviewed or edited an applicant's Personal Essay.
In order to honor this new change and ensure the integrity of the application process, please DO NOT SUBMIT your personal essay to Dartmouth Scholarship Advising at either the Primary or Campus deadlines. You will be responsible for submitting the Personal Essay yourself as part of the final application process. Scholarship Advising should only receive your Personal Essay as part of the PDF of your final application after you have submitted it to the Rhodes Trust or Mitchell Program.
As part of the endorsement process, we will be asking each applicant to the Rhodes and Mitchell scholarships to complete an online questionnaire before the campus deadline. We will notify you once the questionnaire is online in early August.
You may find a description of the new change to the Rhodes Personal Essay policy here:
The new change to the Mitchell Personal Essay policy is mentioned here (the language of the attestation will be the same as for the Rhodes):
