Dartmouth Winter Carnival

Begun in 1911, Dartmouth's Winter Carnival celebrates the beauty of the winter season in the Upper Valley and the achievements of Dartmouth's many winter sports teams. From humble beginnings as a weekend of winter sporting, Carnival has evolved into a three-day festival of events across campus. Organized each year by students on the Winter Carnival Council in partnership with the Collis Center for Student Involvement, Winter Carnival offers something for everyone!

The 2015 Winter Carnival will be held Thursday, Feb. 5 – Sunday, Feb. 8

The Winter Carnival Council and Collis Center for Student Involvement are sponsoring an ice sculpture contest again this year!

Sign up your team, organization, department, or group of friends to build a sculpture for the Ice Sculpting Contest. Only the first 20 teams that sign up and pay their deposit will be able to participate, so sign up now!

  • The Class of 1977 is generously sponsoring cash awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners!
  • The carving will be done Thursday and Friday, February 5 & 6.
  • Each team gets to have a professional sculptor make major cuts on the sculpture (to the team’s specifications) before carving the rest by hand!
  • For excellent sources of knowledge and inspiration, check out the links below.
  • A $25 deposit is required from all teams to ensure the return of the professional tools provided to each team, as well as completion of the team's sculpture.
