The Dartmouth Radiation Belt Code is currently a 2D relativistic guiding center particle
simulation using LFM MHD fields to advance guiding center electron trajectories in the
equatorial plane. At left is a plot of radiation belt electron flux superimposed onto magnetic
field contours for a particular storm interval. Arrival of the interplanetary shock compresses
the magnetopause and plasma sheet electrons are injected into the inner magnetosphere and
energized while conserving their first invariant.
Lower left shows Solar Energetic Proton (SEP) trapping computed from 3D Lorentz
trajectories using LFM MHD fields for a CME shock impact interval in November 2001.
