Arriving Early — 30-Day Policy

U.S. embassies and consulates are able to issue student and exchange visitor visas a full three months before the study or program begins and can even accept applications earlier than 90 days to begin processing. Students or exchange visitors, however, will not be admitted to the U.S. more than 30 days before the start of their study or program by the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection.
