UGA and PL Job Descriptions
Under the direction and supervision of a Community Director, and in collaboration with a staff team, Undergraduate Advisors and Program Liaisons are generally responsible for: providing individual support and advising to residents; facilitating the development of communities that support and enhance the intellectual, cultural, and social development of residents; and assisting the Office of Residential Life in fulfilling its mission and values. All student staff members must meet the following expectations:
Training and Staff Development
- Attend and complete all staff training, development, and continuing education sessions, including fall training and other sessions held throughout the year.
- Attend supervisory meetings held regularly throughout the year.
- Participate fully as a member of a staff team and work collaboratiely with colleagues.
- Attend a weekly staff meeting.
- Participate in the performance evaluation process conducted by your supervisor.
Advising and Supporting Residents
- Serve as a resource and referral contact for residents.
- Assist in the orientation of new students and provide support and programming for continuing students.
- Provide initial, short-term advising and work closely with the Community Director, class deans, and other college resources to provide personal and academic support for residents.
- Work with the Community Director and other College officials in dealing with crises and emergencies.
- Spend between 10 and 15 hours per week being visible and available to residents and actively performing job duties and responsibilities. Additional hours may be necessary at various times during each term.
Community Development
- Create and maintain a community of residents who respect individual rights and responsibilities, are accountable for their actions, are appreciative of difference, and respect College and personal property.
- Actively address inappropriate behavior and take necessary steps to solicit a change in behavior, possibly including referral of such students to the Community Director or other College officials.
- Fulfill programming requirements, expectations, and administrative responsibilities, including: following purchasing procedures and policies, providing program plans and reports, and arranging program logistics.
- Work closely with the Community Director, staff, and residents to enrich the residential experience through the development and implementation of educational, cultural, and social programs in your assigned cluster.
- Attend, promote, and encourage student involvement in small- and large-scale programs.
Administration
- Assist in the overall management of the cluster or house, including problem identification and resolution in all aspects of housing, operations, and residential life.
- Fulfill administrative responsibilities and other expectations as assigned by the Community Director.
- Support and abide by all College and Office of Residential Life policies and procedures.
- Participate in the Undergraduate Advisor/Program Liaison selection processes as assigned.
- Remain on campus and participate in staff on-call rotation during major College weekends and events: Homecoming, Winter Carnival, and Green Key (dates to be announced).
- With approval from the Community Director, arrange for hall/house coverage with another staff member during nights and/or weekends away from campus.
- Remain on campus to provide staff coverage and to assist with hall opening and closing processes at the beginning and end of each term.
- Serve as an administrative liaison by distributing information to residents regarding critical information which may include: opening and closing, interim housing, Room Draw, College emergencies, etc.
Specific Program Liaison Responsibilities
Program Liaisons work closely withthe Community Director, Program Directors (s), and where applicable, resident graduates or faculty to develop and implement educational, cultural, and social programs with house residents. There may be additional responsibilities that are unique to your house, as assigned by your supervisor.
