You should read the following information thoroughly if you are interested in being a UGA for an affinity program.
There are two ways that you can be a UGA for an affinity program:
- Be an “Affinity UGA" who works exclusively with residents who are in the affinity program. (Note: applying for an "Affinity UGA" position requires a reference from the affinity program advisor—see below)
- Be a UGA who works with both traditional residents and residents assigned to the affinity program on the floor.
You should apply as an "Affinity UGA" if you are interested in working with one of the following affinity programs:
Asian Studies Center (Gerard Bohlen, Advisor)
Brewster International House (Steve Silver, Advisor; Gloria Densmore, Program Coordinator)
Cutter-Shabazz (Samantha Ivery, Advisor)
Foley House (Erika Robinson, Advisor)
La Casa (Lorgia Garcia Pena, Advisor)
Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies House (LALACS) (Alexander Hernandez-Siegel, Advisor)
Native American House (Joseph Brewer, Advisor; Cara Wallace, Advisor)
"Affinity UGAs" work exclusively with residents in the assigned affinity program, most of which are located in a free-standing houses. Affinity UGAs have essentially the same job description as other UGAs, but the nature of these programs require that Affinity UGAs work more closely with house advisors/coordinators, have a familiarity with and an understanding of the program for which they are hired, and in some cases the UGA needs to meet the language requirements of the program.
Instructions for Affinity UGA candidates:
The affinity programs listed below do not have their own houses or floors, and UGAs assigned to these programs are hired as UGAs rather than as "Affinity UGAs."
If you are interested in being a UGA for the area/hall where one of these programs is housed, you should indicate this in the "Special Interest Housing" section of the UGA application.
French/Italian Program
Russian Program
Hillel Apartments (housed in Maxwell Hall)
Kade German Center (housed in Maxwell Hall)
UGAs for these programs have equal responsibility for all residents in their community—those who are involved in the affinity program, and those who are not. These UGAs do not have any specific responsibilities to the affinity program housed in their community.
