Special Interest Housing Options Available For Draw

East Wheelock Cluster

The East Wheelock Program is an intellectually vibrant and culturally diverse residential community that expands the educational experience beyond the classroom.  Through enhanced interaction among students, faculty, staff, and a wide range of visiting scholars, artists, performers and public figures, the program prepares students for life-long learning and responsible global citizenship.  Students interested in the East Wheelock program must submit an East Wheelock Application by April 8, 2010.

After applications are reviewed, students will be notified by e-mail whether or not they are accepted to the program. For students accepted to the program there will be an East Wheelock Cluster Room Draw on May 6, 2010.

Gender Neutral Suites and Apartments

Select room types such as apartments, suites, quads, and singles with connecting bathrooms are designated gender neutral housing.  Specific locations are highlighted in green on the floor plans.  These specially designated rooms will be available for selection at room draw, regardless of sex or gender, and provided all beds can be filled.  For more information on this option, please contact the Housing Office.

Gender Neutral Housing Program

This program provides a living/learning environment where residents learn about and explore issues of gender identity in a supportive community.  The floor sponsors events open to the whole student body to encourage respectful conversations on gender identity and expression.  Students interested in the community, located on the ground floor of McLane Hall, should fill out the application available on the ORL website and due April 15, 2010.  For more information on this program and the application process, please contact Pam Misener, Program Advisor, or a member of the Housing Office staff.

Sophomore Pre-major Advising Program

Areas of our upperclass halls that have a high concentration of sophomore students may take part in a unique program designed to support sophomores as they navigate the realities of the second college year. Sophomore residents are provided with programs, advising, and other resources that target the unique academic and social decision-making needs that arise during the sophomore year. Programs that specifically focus on building leadership skills, creating an academic plan, staying healthy and making positive choices are some of the opportunities in which residents can choose to participate. Residents will interact with peer leaders and regularly receive helpful information, such as reminders about deadlines and tips for success. For the past four years, this program has been focused in the Fayerweathers, and has now been expanded to include all sophomores in residence.

Substance-Free Buildings

South Fayerweather Hall and the Ledyard Apartments are available for those students who desire to live in an environment that is substance-free. Students living in a substance-free area agree that they and their guests will not use or possess alcohol, tobacco products, or illicit drugs in the building. They also agree that if they use such substances outside of the substance-free living area, their behavior upon their return will not have a negative impact upon residents or property. When selecting rooms in these communities at General Room Draw, students will be required to sign a brief contract stating they agree to live by these tenets.
