Friendship Family Request Form for Students
Our goal for the Friendship Family Program is to provide international students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in American culture in a personal, fulfilling, and memorable way.
We anticipate that Friendship Families will include their students in some of their family outings and holiday celebrations, help their students adjust to culture shock, and respond to student questions and observations as they seek to learn more about the United States.
The FFP experience is meant to give international students a unique perspective of American life beyond the hectic life of campus, as well as the opportunity to form meaningful cross-cultural friendships with local Upper Valley residents.
Participation in the International Friendship Family Program is not mandatory, but we highly recommend it. If you wish to participate in the FFP, you can apply now by filling out a Friendship Family Program Request Form.
Simply download the form and return it as an enclosed document via e-mail to Friendship.Family@Dartmouth.edu, or print it out and fax it to (603) 646-9040, or mail it to International Student Programs-OPAL, Dartmouth College, 6217 Collis Center, Hanover, NH 03755.
Requests for a 2012-2013 Friendship Family must be received by Friday, August 17, 2012. Any Request Form received after the deadline of August 17 will only be considered if additional families are available.
**Please note: Since the number of host families is limited, and a certain level of commitment is required in order for Friendship Families to be successful, we ask that you consider, in advance, whether or not you will be able to dedicate time to getting to know your host family and being an active participant in the program.
Once you have completed the Friendship Family Request Form, the information you submit will be used to pair you with a Friendship Family. All matches between matriculating international students and interested Friendship Families are made once per year prior to the start of the fall term.
In September, you will receive a reply via e-mail informing you of your match, and inviting you to a welcome reception held within the first two weeks of the fall term. During the reception, FFP families and students will meet for the first time and officially begin the International Friendship Family Program for the year.
