Mary Childers became Dartmouth College's Ombudsperson in 2007. She brings to the position extensive experience in resolving conflict and helping employees adjust to changes in the workplace. Her familiarity with Dartmouth began when she taught in the English Department and in Women's and Gender Studies before becoming Director of the Women's Resource Center and then Director of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action.
To reach Mary, you may send an email to Mary.Childers@Dartmouth.edu or call her at 603-646-9872. Please be aware that email is not appropriate for confidential communications and that communication with the Ombuds Office does not constitute notice to the College about the existence of a problem. The Office, in the Church of Christ on campus (often referred to as the White church), is centrally located and convenient for most employees. But if you need to meet off site because of your work location or worries about confidentiality, Mary will try to accommodate your preferences.
Remember: Many problems are easier to resolve if you address them early on and do not let frustration or misunderstanding build. Sometimes just a fifteen minute conversation with a neutral party can help you get unstuck.
