Following the recommendations of the College Benefits Council (CBC), the College has expanded parental and bereavement leave policies to better meet employee needs and to maintain a competitive benefits package. The policies, which went into effect Nov. 1, 2007, apply to regular, benefits-eligible (non-faculty, non-union) employees.
Paid Parental Leave
• Birth mothers will now be entitled to two additional weeks of paid leave, totaling eight weeks of paid leave time (when added to the six weeks of paid maternity leave thru the short term disability program).
• Spouses, partners, and adoptive parents are also now eligible for two weeks of paid parental leave.
• The two-week paid leave may be taken immediately following birth or adoption or at any time during the first year of becoming a parent. Leave time can be taken all at once, intermittently, or incrementally (i.e. mother easing back into work on a part-time basis), with prior approval from the supervisor.
Paid Bereavement Leave
The number of paid bereavement leave days an employee is entitled to in the event of the death of an immediate family member increased from three to five.
