Dental Services
Because students often ask the Health Service to recommend dentists in the
Hanover area, we have compiled a list of state-licensed dentists located in
Hanover and the surrounding communities who have expressed interest in caring
for Dartmouth students. The dentists listed
will accept students as new patients to the extent permitted by their
practice.
Please note this listing is not an endorsement by Dartmouth College or
the Health Service for any of the individuals named. Also, the Health Service
does not certify the accuracy of the descriptions which were provided to us by
the dentists.
We welcome your feedback about dental services in the Hanover area. Please
e-mail us at health.service@dartmouth.edu.
Dental Insurance
Students also ask us about dental insurance. Dental insurance plans are
different than medical health insurance plans. The primary purpose of a medical
plan is to cover the risk of a catastrophic illness or injury. For this reason,
medical plans tend to have high maximums. For example, the Dartmouth Student
Group Health Plan offers a $2 million maximum. By contrast, dental plans are
often designed to cover predictable, lower cost expenses. Dental plans may
concentrate their best coverage for preventive services, which are predictable
expenses. Dental plan maximums can be as low as $500 to $1,000 per year.
Because of the high cost/benefit ratio, some students may be better off to
budget for dental care rather than to purchase dental insurance.
We know of two dental plans that Dartmouth students can choose individually.
One is
DentalONE, a plan introduced by Northeast Delta Dental in 2002. Delta
Dental has a dental provider network, but also covers non-network dental
services.
Associated International Plans, Inc. (AIPI), an agency in the Chicago area
that specializes in student insurance, offers a Student Dental & Vision
Plan that is available to individual students living in New Hampshire or
Vermont.
PLEASE NOTE - Information about Northeast Delta Dental and Associated
International Plans, Inc. do not represent an endorsement of their present or
future products by Dartmouth College or the Health Service.
The Dartmouth Student Group
Health Plan (DSGHP) is a major medical policy. It provides no dental
benefits except for dental expenses due to accidental injury to teeth,
excluding biting or chewing injuries.
We welcome your feedback about dental insurance programs that are open to
Dartmouth students. Please e-mail us at health.service@dartmouth.edu.
