The Health Service at Dick's House is State-licensed and affiliated with the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC). Our staff will assist with referrals to DHMC or other community providers for services not available through the Health Service. Students requiring immediate medical attention when the Health Service is closed are directed to the DHMC Emergency Room. The cost of DHMC and other non-Health Service care is billed by the provider to the student.

It's All in the Name

The Health Service is known on campus as Dick's House — an abbreviation for Dick Hall's House. Dick Hall's House was donated in 1927 to Dartmouth College by Mr. and Mrs. Edward K. Hall in memory of their son, Richard Drew Hall '27, who died of polio during his sophomore year. In 1991, Hitchcock Hospital vacated 5 Rope Ferry, a building which is linked to Dick's House. Several Health Service offices expanded into 5 Rope Ferry to relieve congestion in Dick's House. The 5 Rope Ferry "connector" is the main entrance for all Health Service offices.

Location and Parking

The Health Service is located at the north end of campus, near Occum Pond. The entrance for parking is on Maynard Street. There are reserved spaces for patients and visitors in the lot behind 5 Rope Ferry and Dick's House. There is no street parking on Rope Ferry Road. Bike racks are available by the front and back entrances.

The Health Service is wheelchair accessible. An elevator in Dick's House services both 5 and 7 Rope Ferry Road.
