Major A focuses on literary and non-literary texts in their historical and intellectual contexts, and consists of courses offered in German Studies (although, with permission of the Chair, one appropriate course in another department may be substituted).
Prerequisites: two courses at the intermediate level (German 6, German 10.00, German 10.01, German 10.02, German 10.03, or permission of the Chair).
Major-level courses: eight courses numbered above 13, including German 65. All three courses on the Foreign Study Program in Berlin (German 29, 30, and 31) receive major credit. German 42-47, which are in translation, require additional work in German, and normally only one may count toward the major.
