Major A focuses on literary and non-literary texts in their historical and intellectual contexts, and consists of courses offered in German Studies (although, with permission of the Chair, one appropriate course in another department may be substituted). Required are eight courses numbered 29 and above, including German 65 (German 42-47, which are in translation, require additional work in German). All three courses on the Foreign Study Program in Berlin count toward major credit.
