Stephanie Taylor became the Program Administrator of the Harris German-Dartmouth Visiting Professorship in 2005. Prior to her arrival at Dartmouth in 2001 to serve as the Administrator of the Department of German Studies, she worked for fifteen years in the field of environmental consulting and planning, having received a B.A. from Rutgers in 1980 and a Masters in Environmental Science from the College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse University in 1983.

In 1985-6 she studied environmental planning at the Technical University in Berlin with a fellowship from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), afterwards spending extended periods there as a free-lance scientific translator for a number of clients, including the Institute for Limnology at the TU and the Berlin Senate.

In 1990-1991, she worked as an interpreter for the newly-opened Berlin bureau of the Dallas Morning News, and traveled throughout the former East Germany to interview former Stasi officials, anarchists, ministers, longshoremen, shopkeepers, and grandmothers about the impact of German unification on their lives and the legacy of the former East German state.
