Dennis Washburn, the Jane and Raphael Bernstein Professor in Asian Studies, recently helped bring to campus a three-day conference, "The Affect of Difference: Representations of Race and Identity Under Asian Empires," which focused on the appearance and definitions of race in historic and modern Asian. The conference, which included a series of panel discussions, round table talks, and a keynote address, is the result of a three-year collaboration between Dartmouth and the University of California, Los Angeles.
