DCAL has been selected by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching to participate in a three-year partnership to improve undergraduate and graduate education. DCAL is now part of the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning's (CASTL) new initiative called the Institutional Leadership Program. DCAL's group will focus on the theme of "Building Scholarly Campus Communities." Other partners in this group include the Ohio State University, Kwantlen University College, Queen's University, Ryerson University, Southeast Missouri State University, and the University of Glasgow.

The kick-off meeting for the Institutional Leadership Program was held November 8, 2006 in Washington, D.C. in conjunction with the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL) annual conference.
Under the auspices of this program, DCAL developed and deployed a faculty mentoring program, called the Teaching Network, that made informal peer assessment of teaching and course design possible for about 20 participants; we hope to continue and expand this classroom visits program. We also initiated the DCALendar newsletter, published once each term. Professors May and Luxon attended the kick-off event for CASTL in November 2006 and Professor May and Dr. Fliss traveled to Columbus OH in May, 2007 for a follow-up meeting. Future meetings with the CASTL group are planned for May of 2008 and 2009.
