Q: Can the Divisional Internship course be taken during any academic term?

No, the Divisional Internship course must be taken during a resident term in the student's approved D-Plan immediately following the internship term. The internship must occur during a student's scheduled leave term on their approved D-Plan.

Q: Is there a minimum duration of the internship experience?

Yes, internship experiences are expected to be full time and require at least 200 hours of total effort over the duration of the internship, including writing the required essays.  For this reason, it is expected that the minimum duration of the internship experience would be five weeks.

Q: Is credit earned for successful completion of a Divisional Internship course?

Yes, students are graded on a pass/fail (CT/NC) basis and earn 0.10 credits for successful completion of the course on their undergraduate transcript.

Q: Is tuition charged for Divisional Internship courses?

No, there are no administrative fees or additional tuition charges for enrollment in a Divisional Internship course.

Q: How does enrollment in a Divisional Internship course impact a student’s official course load for a term?

A student’s official course load is rounded to the nearest whole number. Therefore, Divisional Internship courses do not impact a student’s course load as they are worth 0.10 credits and are always rounded down.

Q: Can the internship experience be paid?

Yes, internship experiences used for this purpose may be paid or unpaid. The internship host (employer) should determine what is appropriate based on the applicable state and federal laws.

Q: How many times can I earn credit for completing an internship?

Students can enroll in the Divisional Internship Courses a total of two times and may earn a maximum of 0.2 credits on their undergraduate transcript through these courses. If a student earns a No Credit (NC) grade in a Divisional Internship course, they are not eligible to enroll in a second Divisional Internship course.

Q: As an international Student, can I enroll in a Divisional Internship course?

Yes, international students enrolling in a Divisional Internship course must have Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorization to engage in the internship experience. For more information on CPT eligibility and the CPT request process for international students, please go to the OVIS website.

Q: Can I earn credit for an internship prior to having an approved and declared major?

No, students' internship must be directly related to their major. Therefore, only students with declared majors (with approved major plans) are eligible to enroll in a Divisional Internship course.

Q: Can I request retroactive academic credit for an internship I have already begun or completed?

No, retroactive or late applications are not accepted.

Q: Can I participate in a Divisional Internship if I do not have an approved major?

First-year students and any other students who do not have an approved major cannot participate in a Divisional Internship as the internship must relate directly to the student's major.
