Dartmouth Dining Plans - What Do They Include?

Each of the dining plans available to students living on-campus includes both meal swipes and a declining balance account (Dining DBA). Students living off-campus have the option of purchasing a dining plan that only includes Dining DBA.

SC Meal Plans

 Block Choice Plans

OC Plans

Meal Swipes

Each of the on-campus plans includes a certain number of meal swipes. The SmartChoice plans provide students with a certain number of meal swipes per week. The BlockChoice plans provide students with a certain number of meal swipes per term. Students can only use one meal swipe each meal period (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or late-night).

A meal swipe can be used to gain entry into '53 Commons, Dartmouth's all-you-can-eat dining facility. It can also be exchanged (one per meal period) for an established dollar equivalency of purchasing power at each of the following Dartmouth Dining Services (DDS) locations: Collis Café, Courtyard Café, Novack Café, and East Wheelock Dining. The current dollar equivalencies are $5.25 for breakfast, $7.75 for lunch, $10 for dinner, and $5.25 for late-night. These locations also offer a meal including an entrée and a beverage for the price of one meal swipe.

Dining DBA

Dining DBA is a pre-paid declining balance account billed as part of the dining plan at the beginning of each term. Students can use this account to pay for food at any DDS a la carte dining facility (Collis Café, Courtyard Café, Novack Café, and East Wheelock Snack Bar). Although it is a better value to use a meal swipe at '53 Commons, students can use DBA to purchase an all-you-cre-to-eat meal at this location. Dining DBA can also be used at the King Arthur Flour espresso bar. Dining DBA is part of a student's dining plan and unused DBA expires at the end of each term.  Dining DBA cannot be used to pay for food to be delivered to or picked up by students after the end of the current term.

DDS Charging

DDS Charging is an additional account available to students through which they can make DDS purchases not covered by their dining plans. For instance, if a student uses all of her Dining DBA prior to the end of a term, any additional DDS or King Arthur Flour purchases she makes (excluding meal-swipe usages) will accrue to this account. Students are also allowed to use this account to make purchases at the Collis Market convenience store (previously known as Topside), which is not part of the dining plan.

The amount students owe to their DDS Charging accounts is applied to their College bills each month.

Dash Discretionary

Dash Discretionary is a pre-paid, deposited spending account available to students. Students choose when, if, and how much to deposit into this account. This account can be used to pay for a diverse range of services across campus, such as laundry, printing, vending machines, tickets, and computer store supplies. While this account is not part of the dining plans, it nevertheless can be used at any DDS dining facility, at King Arthur Flour, and at Collis Market.

Students, as well as outside visitors, can make cash purchases at any DDS dining facility, at King Arthur Flour, and at Collis Market. Credit cards are currently accepted at '53 Commons, Novack Café, King Arthur Flour, and at Collis Market.
