What percentage of students live on-campus at Dartmouth?
Over 85% of students live on campus in our residence halls, academic affinity programs, and co-ed/fraternity/sorority housing. The remaining 15% live close to campus in either college-owned off-campus apartments or other local rental housing options.

Does Dartmouth have a Greek system?
Dartmouth has a Greek system made up of 3 co-ed organizations, 17 fraternities, and 11 sororities. Students can join a Greek-letter organization beginning in their sophomore year.

Where do students eat?
On campus, Dartmouth offers 10 different dining facilities offering full meals and lighter fare and including vegetarian, vegan, kosher and halal options. Hanover also has over 20 restaurants, coffee shops, cafes and pizza places.

Is there an active performing arts community at Dartmouth? Do students get chance to perform?
Yes - to both questions. The Hopkins Center for the Arts both attracts world-class performers from around the world and provides opportunities to for Dartmouth students to showcase their own talents in theater, dance and musical performance.

What athletic programs does Dartmouth offer?
Dartmouth sponsors 34 intercollegiate varsity teams (most compete at the NCAA Division 1 level), 32 club teams and 24 intramural leagues. Students can access a 14,000 square foot recreational fitness center and participate in dozens of physical education and fitness courses.

What is the Dartmouth Outing Club?
The Dartmouth Outing Club (DOC) is the oldest and largest collegiate outing club in the country. The DOC organizes trips in the out-of-doors, provides outdoor leader and medical/safety education, maintains over seventy miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, and oversees the "First-Year Trips" program.

With over 350 different student organizations that cover just about every imaginable interest, we think that you're going to find more than enough activities to keep you busy and engaged at Dartmouth. If you see a need that is unmet, you can always start a new group.

How safe is Dartmouth?
Dartmouth and the surrounding town of Hanover is a safe place to live, work, and visit. We offer a range of services to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all community members. Dartmouth Safety and Security provides round-the-clock patrols and assistance. Students with health concerns can visit our on-campus infirmary, Dick's House, or go to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
