Areas of Expertise: oceanography, marine ecology
Background/Research/Experience: Dr. Kate Buckman has been involved in marine research for over 15 years and has worked in a diverse array of environments, including coral reef ecosystems, hydrothermal vent communities, the open ocean, and estuaries. She has a passion for fish and is interested in understanding ecological interactions between marine organisms and their environment. As a member of Dartmouth SRP's Project 2 she works with Dr. Chen to understand the factors affecting bioaccumulation and trophic transfer of mercury in estuarine organisms through both field and laboratory investigations. Kate has also undertaken work on the fate and transfer of mercury in freshwater systems, including rivers and vernal pools in NH and VT.
