DCARS - FAQ

Where do I find the DCARS Dashboard

How do I know which proposals on the DCARS Dashboard require my review?

How do we know which point number to assign?

Do I have to submit course syllabi for my proposed course?

Can I cross-list a course that is already approved with one that has not yet been finalized?

Only one of the distributive/world culture requirements I requested was approved by the COI. I now want to request a different one. How do I do this?

Where can I add new course information?

Where Can I make changes to course information?

What should I do if I'm proposing a new course intended to be a new special topic rubric?

What types of curricular changes may not be submitted through DCARS?

The faculty member who will be teaching the proposed new course is not yet hired and is therefore not listed in Banner. Can I indicate somewhere who is teaching the course?

Where do I find the DCARS Dashboard?

  • Log into the DCARS dashboard by going to your Faculty and Advisor Menu or Administrator Menu on BannerStudent for Faculty and selecting the DCARS (Dartmouth Course Approval and Routing System) menu item. You can also access the DCARS dashboard by clicking the link provided in DCARS e-mail notifications sent at each step of the course approval routing process.

How do I know which proposals on the DCARS Dashboard require my review?

  • On the DCARS dashboard, click the title of the course you want to review under the "Proposals Needing Action" section to open the course proposal summary page.

How do we know which point number to assign?

  • If you don’t know what number to use enter a suggested number. The Office of the Registrar can assist you with the assignment of the course number.

Do I have to submit course syllabi for my proposed course?

  • Yes, if you submit a proposed course without syllabus, the following error message will appear:

Can I cross-list a course that is already approved with one that has not yet been finalized?

  • No, only courses already approved as part of the curriculum may be cross-listed.

Only one of the distributive/world culture requirements I requested was approved by the COI. I now want to request a different one. How do I do this?

  • Log into DCARS dashboard and select the "Update a Course" tab. Follow the instructions for updating a course in the Faculty/Administrator Guide.

Where can I add new course information?

Where Can I make changes to course information?

What should I do if I'm proposing a new course intended to be a new special topic rubric?

  • Submit a new course proposal on the DCARS system and DO NOT check the special topic checkbox.

What types of curricular changes may not be submitted through DCARS?

  • DCARS will not support every type of curricular change or all types of courses. For example the process for making certain curricular changes such as the renumbering of multiple courses in a department or program at one time, changes in requirements for an FSP/LSA, and changes in requirements for the major or minor, remain as usual. Graduate courses, first-year seminars, and courses with an off-campus component should be submitted following the usual process to the appropriate entity since each of these has a unique routing/approval system.

The faculty member who will be teaching the proposed new course is not yet hired and is therefore not listed in Banner. Can I indicate somewhere who is teaching the course?

  • Yes, if the faculty member is not listed in banner, you may use the comments box that appears after you submit the proposed course to indicate the instructor's name. The following message will appear:
