My friend Terri made a birthday cake with this frosting, and I had two pieces. I don't like cake much, usually, but the cake just served as a delivery vehicle for this incredible frosting. Trust me, this frosting will make any old cake taste incredible. I mean it. Try it!
|1 lb.||salted butter, good quality, softened|
|1 lb.||powdered sugar|
|6 T||baking cocoa|
|2 c||crushed walnuts|
|1||egg yolk (optional)|
Cream butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, cocoa, cream, (egg if desired), and vanilla and beat until smooth. Frost cake. Cover sides with walnuts or add walnuts directly into the frosting.
This is enough frosting for a 2-layer cake. Double the recipe for larger cakes.
