Listen to the interview:

Gordon: "They [a group of students] started what they called the Winter Carnival Date Bureau.  They wrote letters to all of the girls' schools: Wellesley, Smith, Holyoke … saying, 'Would you like to come to Winter Carnival?' which was quite a social event for a young lady … because it was the most famous Winter Carnival in the country then. And said, 'Send in your specifications …' They wanted to know how tall you were, how much you weighed, what was your bust size and that sort of thing, and a picture. Then guys would go traipsing up to their room and they had catalogues of these pictures and resumes and they'd go through it … and they would communicate with each other by mail."
