George: "[The War] was a big issue with President Hopkins. He had been very upset and surprised – this is in the build-up before Pearl Harbor – that the student body opinion seemed to be contrary to making the destroyers available to Britain and taking any steps that were going to involve us in the War. Whereas he thought that was absolutely right … And he was right and he formed a committee [and] picked kids that he thought should know better or should have an opinion more like his."
