Listen to the interview:

John: "[My social group] was the fellas that went to military school [like me].We sort of had a little bit of a thing. I know when they were working up towards World War Two, there were several 'Peace at Any Price' groups that set up corner kiosks and things and I think we dumped over a couple of them and got into a bit of trouble that way. We were sort of fiercely patriotic … and I do remember that Dartmouth was a very pacifist college. And then, boy, they did a double switch: took in the Navy and the Navy V-12."
