Paul: "My father had been attached to the Marines in WWI. He loved the Marine Corps. So he immediately called the Marine Corps and signed me up. I thank him every day for that. I loved the Marines. So in the fall of 1942 I joined the Marines. You joined as a potential officer and they were going to train [us]. They did not need them quickly – they weren't killing them off fast enough. So they started the V-12. President Hopkins was very lucky to get the College in the program. Eventually a lot of other colleges [joined] but [Dartmouth] was one of the first."
