Student Employment at the Jones Media Center

Student assistants are integral to the work flow at the Jones Media Center. Each term Jones employs between 15 and 20 students covering approximately 100 hours. We are looking for students that understand and value good public service and are willing to work as team players. The Jones Media Center offers the following positions to Dartmouth students:

Circulation Services Assistant

Job Description and Requirements

  • Assist patrons (students, faculty, staff, alumni, visitors) at the Media Services desk
  • Answer questions about Media Center collections and services, the Library and the College
  • Support circulation activities as they relate to audio-visual collections, equipment loans, disc media, and tabletop games
  • Shelve and file media
  • Perform other Media Center tasks as needed
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service, in person and by phone
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of Dartmouth libraries, campus and community
  • Adhere to all library policies and procedures
  • Maintain patron confidentiality
  • Complete necessary training requirements
  • Work a minimum of 6 hours per week

Hourly Base Rate: $18.00

Application Process

Since many students continue to work at Jones for several terms, only a few jobs become available each term. Interested students should contact the Media Center early (several weeks before the new term starts).

Creative Services Assistant:

Job Description and Requirements

  • Provide technical (software) assistance to students and faculty working on digital media projects.  
  • Create posters, movie trailers, and short animations to promote and showcase the Center's collection and services. 
  • Develop familiarity with media technology (software, equipment) and new collaborative learning spaces (Innovation Studio, Virtual A/V Lab, and Whisper Room) offered at Jones. 
  • Perform routine tasks such as maintenance of rental equipment. 
  • Acquire and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant software: eg. iMovie, Final Cut Pro X, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator. 
  • Experience with shooting video and photography is desirable. 
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service.  
  • Interest in digital media technology with previous experience in graphic design and/or video editing projects preferred. 
  • Creative and self-motivated with the ability to work independently. 
  • Work a minimum of 6 hours per week, and meet deadlines.

Hourly Base Rate: $20.00
