Announcements

Jennifer Merrill reported that the Keyword index has been rebuilt, but that there may be an outstanding problem that will require another reindex.

The Keyword search page now has a preliminary limit form.  The Limit Group will redesign and refine this from.

Subgroup Reports

Help Subgroup

Bill Fontaine reported that the Help Subgroup is ready to put up some of the help pages.  He will meet with Jennifer and/or Paul early next week to add the pages to the WebPAC.

The Help Subgroup also discussed what text should be placed under the "Keyword" index on the main menu page.  Neither the Help Subgroup nor the WebPAC team had any ideas that they felt were acceptable, we will leave it blank for now and encourage testers to submit ideas.

Bill G. will put a link to the prototype help pages on the WebPAC home page.

Design Group

The design subgroup will meet again this afternoon (2/8/01).

Patron Initiated Functions Subgroup

This subgroup would like to modify its charge slightly.  <<<The change will be in a separate e-mail from Becca.>>>

Charge for the Training Subgroup

The charge was modified to emphasize the group is preparing a "meet the WebPAC" session rather than a formal training session.  The purpose is to introduce the new catalog and its new features.

Membership was finalized as Reinhart Sonnenburg, Jen Nelson, and Norma Pellerin.

USC/CMDC Presentation

Bill has begun preparing a PowerPoint introduction to the presentation where he will lay out the outline for the presentation.  It is hoped that as many members of the WebPAC team will participate in the presentation.  Becca volunteered to present the patron initiated functions.  A discussion of what should be conveyed in the presentation followed.  Some points that we want to make in the presentation are:

  • This is an evolving system, so if something isn't right, chances are, we can make it right.  Feedback is important to the evolution.
  • This is a different system.  We need feedback on searches and functions that we need to figure out how to do.
  • We want to be positive in the presentation.  There are known issues that we are working on and will eventually fix, so we want to present the strengths of the system.
  • The Serials search issue is one item which the WebPAC team hasn't yet discussed in detail.  We haven't yet figured out how to search for serials, but, like some other limits, that doesn't mean it can't be done or won't be in the released product.
